    Missing Persons Commission Concludes Public Sittings in Mullaitivu

    The Presidential Commission to Investigate Complaints Regarding Missing Persons concluded its fifth round of public sittings in Mullaitivu on July 8 with 128 people submitting evidence before the Commission. This time, the public sittings took place at the Puthukkudiyiruppu Divisional Secretariat on July 5 and 6 and at the Maritime (Muhudubadapattu) Divisional Secretariat on July 7 and 8.

    “Persons who are not registered with the Presidential Commission so far are allowed more time to make their complaints regarding their missing relatives by post,” said the Commission’s Chairman Mr. Maxwell Paranagama.

     

    The Commission has thus far conducted public sittings in Jaffna, Batticaloa, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu Districts in the Northern and Eastern Provinces, with the highest number of complaints being recorded from the Batticaloa District. There were 1,830 complaints made within two sessions.

     

    To date, the Commission has received 19,284 complaints including 5,000 complaints made by families of security forces. The Commission has recorded evidence form 462 persons until now and this evidence is being analysed by an independent investigation group for further inquiries.(LLRC)
