    A noble gesture of Ven.Ariyawanshalankara Nayaka Thero fulfilled

    A noble gesture of the most respected and widely known late Thero, Ven. Dr Harispattuwe Ariyawanshalankara Nayaka Thero saw its realization on Monday (14) at Theldeniya, Kandy. The Thero before his demise advised his laymen  to use monetary contributions received  for his funeral expenses from the public for a worthy cause of building a new house for a family of a fallen War Hero.

    The new house to be given to the family of late War Hero Sergeant Y.G Thillakaratne of 3 Gajaba Regiment was constructed by  Engineering troops and soldiers of 3 and 8 Gajaba Regiments and Sri Lanka Rifle Corps serving in Kandy-based 11 Division Headquarters, commanded by Brigadier Nishshanka Ranawana, General Officer Commanding.   The funds for the construction work totaling Rs.1.2 million was provided by the Colombo Vipassana Meditation Centre.

     

    Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake who was the Chief Guest  handed over the keys of the house to the widow Mrs E.G Manjula Malkanthi, a mother of three children during a simple ceremony, organized at the venue.   

     

    Ven. Dr Niyangoda Vijithasiri Anunayaka Thero of the Malwatte Chapter and Ven. Millewe Vijitha Thero of the Colombo Vipassana Meditation Centre, conducted religious observances during the house-warming ceremony.

     

    After the ceremony the Army Commander handed over some gift parcels to the family and inquired into the well being of the children and their education.

     

    The ceremony was attended by Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa,  several Provincial Councillors, 111 Brigade Commander, Centre Commandant, Gajaba Regiment Headquarters and  relatives of the recipient.(KH)
