Addressing media this morning at the Department of Government Information, he said that the government ignores the allegations in the NCM against the health minister. Under the Unity Government, an independence judiciary system has been established and any one can go to court against the minster if he has done anything wrong, he added.
He further said that the present government cannot be toppled by moving NCMs and it would proceed until 2025.
Joining with MP Marasinghe, former Chairman of Ceylon Fishery Harbours Corporation Dr. Sudarshana Fernando condemned the allegations against minister Senaratne on Modara Fisheries Harbor by JO saying that they are false.
According to him, a section of the Modara Fisheries Harbour (nearly one thirds) has been rented out to an investor to implement a fisheries vessel repairing project for a monthly rental of Rs. 125, 000 as valuated by a Chartered Valuer. He said, although the government did not invest in that project, which was an investment of Rs. 900 million, it was agreed to pay a 10 percent of the monthly dividend of the project to the Ceylon Fishery Harbour Corporation, which is approximately Rs. 2.2 million per month.
Further responding to the JO’s allegations, Mr. Fernando said that the government valuer had valued not this particular section of the harbor, but the whole harbor for Rs. 1.7 million. Therefore, he added that there is no loss to the government as alleged by the JO from this project and the allegations are baseless.
