Clear mandate by the people Featured

    April 01, 2014

“It is simply evident that the people have reiterated their faith in the government,” said SLFP Treasurer and Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma  to the media at the SLFP headquarters yesterday.

Minister Alahapperuma said it is unfair to compare the UPFA’s Western and Eastern Provincial Council election results with the results of 2009 election as these two elections were held under completely different political circumstances.

He said that the overall result shows that UPFA has a majority of  one million votes than the UNP which is a landslide victory.  Also he added that when all opposition votes are combined, the UPFA again has a majority of 525,000 thousand votes than the combined opposition.

The minister also reiterated that there is no decline in the voter base of the UPFA and said election result clearly shows that no force can defeat the national interests of the country as the patriotic people will never allow this to happen.

“We are happy as we were able to hold a free, fair and a democratic election under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa " SLFP General Secretary and Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena said.
