    Crew of ill-fated vessel saved off Colombo

    Sri Lanka Navy lent assistance to a ship in distress on Tuesday. According to Navy media, merchant vessel "Mutha Pioneer" had lost control and had listed to its Port Side at sea 11.6 nautical miles off Colombo harbor. Upon being alerted of the incident, Navy had sent two Fast Attack Craft (FAC) attached to the Western Naval Command for the rescue mission during the early hours, yesterday.

    Upon reaching the vessel, Naval personnel had rescued the captain and 10 sailors onboard the ill-fated vessel sailing under the Dominican flag. The crew includes ten Sri Lankan and one Indonesian national. The Indian owned ship had been sailing under the command of a Sri Lankan captain.

    The rescued persons were safely brought to the Colombo harbor .
