    August 08, 2014

Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Dr. Rajitha Senaratne denied allegations against him saying he was never involved in any sort of drug scam as alleged by Ven. Gnanasara Thera and said he was going to claim Rs. 1,000 million as damages from the BBS. This was disclosed at a press conference held at the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Ministry on Thursday (07).

He said he would take legal action against the allegations made by Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) Organisation General Secretary Galaboda Aththe Gnanasara Thera and also denied the other allegations made by the BBS General Secretary.

“No one can damage his character on the basis of rumours. All political leaders of the Left Movement know, how I commenced my political career and how I came so far in the field. No one can damage my name or my character," he said.

"As Buddhists from birth, we always respect the Buddhist philosophy and the Maha Sanga from childhood. We dont have any need to challenge or fight with the Maha Sanga," the Minister said.

He also stressed on the need of banning racial and extremist organisations in the country.

"Not only Buddhist monks, all religious leaders should be more careful not to allow extremism as extremists have no resting points. It is my firm belief that all racial and extremist organisations in Sri Lanka should be banned and it is very important in the attempt of making of a one nation and one country," he said. (ST/KH)
