    SLCARP Intl. Research Symposium 2014 Featured

    Around 200 research scholars are listed to attend an international research symposium by the Sri Lanka Council for Agricultural Research Policy (SLCARP) of the Ministry of Agriculture at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Independence Square in Colombo scheduled to be held on August 11 and 12.

    This would be the first ever international research symposium by the SLCARP and it would be attended by scholars from around 200 research institutes from SAARC countries and other nations, according to the council sources.

    Opening ceremony of the research symposium is scheduled to be held at 9.00 am on August 11 with the participation of Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeyewardena and Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa.

    The SLCARP from March 16, this year commenced receiving research abstracts and extended abstracts from researchers involved in agriculture (including animal science, aquaculture and fisheries) and allied fields in natural and social sciences for the Research Symposium.

    The themes of the symposium Crop Production Technologies, Crop Improvement and Bio-Technology, Plant Protection, Natural Resource Management, Food Science and Technology, Agricultural Machinery, Postharvest Technology, Floriculture and Landscape Architecture, Forestry and Agro-Forestry, Livestock and Poultry, Aquaculture and Fisheries, Soil Sciences and other related thematic issues e.g. climate change, biodiversity/agro-biodiversity, IPR issues, policy issues, etc.

    Agriculture trade exhibition is also scheduled to be held parallel to the research symposium. The trade exhibition would provide the opportunity for public to purchase agri-tools and equipments, fertilizers, ornamental flowers, publications on floriculture and horticulture, research publications etc.

    Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Deputy Agriculture Minister Y.G.Padmasiri, Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture R.M.D.B.Meegasmulla are also scheduled to be present on the occasion. (Special Reporter/HC)
