    Sri Lanka Army Para Games from 20 to 22 August

    Sri Lanka Army Para Games' will be held from 20th to 22nd August at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo. The event will see differently able men of the security forces vie for supremacy in a number of athletic disciplines during the three- day long sporting fiesta.


    This year the games will be held under 15 events and so far events including badminton, wheel chair basketball, table tennis, wheel chair tennis, swimming, volleyball, beach volleyball, archery, wheel chair marathon, swimming, and cycling have been successfully concluded.


    Speaking at the weekly press briefing at the Media Centre on Wednesday (13) Chairman of the Army Sports Committee, Major General Jagath Dias (Security Forces Commander- Mullaithivu) said that measures have been taken to facilitate foreign participants from India, Pakistan, Singapore, Vietnam, and Indonesia at the games this year.


    A number of private commercial firms have come forward to sponsor this unique mega sporting event. The inaugural ceremony will be held on the 20th (August) with the participation of the Commander of the Navy.


    Secretary Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa will grace the grand closing ceremony scheduled to be held on the 22nd (August) at the Sugathadasa Stadium.


    Brigadier Rajeev Wickramasinghe, Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Military Spokesman, Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera, Director Media at Army Headquarters, Lieutenant Colonel Deepal Herath, Chairman, Para Games Committee and a few more officers were associated with the conference on Wednesday (13).  (MoD/KH)
