Establishing lasting peace defeating terrorism is the highest measure of securing human rights Featured

    August 14, 2014

There was no other nation in the world that had upheld humanitarian principles during a conflict like the way Sri Lanka did during 30-year-long North East conflict, Minister of Mass Media and Information Keheliya Rambukwella said today.

Addressing the post-cabinet press briefing held at the Ministry of Mass Media and Information in Colombo, Minister Rambukwella said the government saved the lives of more than 300,000 persons who had been used as a human shield by the LTTE. There could have been slight errors and mistakes in that process, but it was wrong to describe them as brutalities or inhuman.

Minister pointed out that thousands of people died daily in this country, then. A large number of nations said that the LTTE was the most ruthless terrorist outfit in the world. “The government has eliminated terrorism and established lasting peace in the country. It is the highest measure of securing human rights in Sri Lanka. It is difficult to comprehend as to how and why some including the UNHRC interpret this victory against terrorism as a war crime,” Minister Rabukwella said. (Special Reporter)
