    Uva PC Polls 2014: Special Transport Facilities for Physically Disabled Persons

    Any person who is unable by reason of any physical disability to convey himself to and from the Polling Station on foot or by a service provided by the Sri Lanka Central Transport Board or by a Regional Transport Board or by Sri Lanka Government Railway or by any public transport may under Section 84(4) (d) apply by himself, or on his behalf of such person by any other person not being a candidate may apply in writing to the Returning Officer of the District to use any vehicle for the purpose of such conveyance, stated a press release issued by the Commissioner of Elections, Mahinda Deshapriya.

    It is required under the law that the application for this facility should be sent to reach the Returning Officer seven days, i.e. before 12th September 2014 before the date of poll. If the Returning Officer is satisfied, he will issue to the person a permit to use special transport facility.


    The Returning officer will be greatly facilitated if the application can be accompanied by a Medical Certificate obtained from a Registered Medical Practitioner (Western or Indigenous) confirming that the applicant is unable to travel by foot or by public transport to the polling station. If an application is made by such a person to a Government Medical Officer, Registered or Assistant Medical Practitioner to examine the applicant and issue him a Medical Certificate which could be obtained free of charge. The name and the registration number of the Medical Practitioner should be stated in the Medical Certificate if it is obtained from Private Medical Practitioner (Western or Indigenous).


    Applications prepared substantially on the specimen form attached should be sent to reach the District Returning Officer (District Secretary) or Assistant Commissioner of Elections on or before before 12th September 2014, before the date of poll.(KH)
