    KDU geared up for 7th Annual Symposium

    The "Annual International Research Symposium 2014" of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) will be held on 21st and 22nd August for the 7th consecutive time at the KDU in Ratmalana". Said Deputy Vice Chancellor, Brigadier Lal Gunasekara addressing a media briefing held at the MoD Media Centre yesterday (15th Aug).

     

    Dean, Faculty of Engineering Prof. Ranjith Perera and Head of the Department, Management & Finance Dr. Namali Sirisoma were also present at the media briefing. Dr. Sirisoma will also hold the Chair of the Symposium.

     

    Deputy Vice Chancellor mentioned that "this year's symposium will be held under the theme of 'Expanding Developmental Horizons through Education, Research and Innovation' during the session".

     

    "The conference would bring together distinguished researches from an array of disciplines such as Engineering, Medicine, Allied Health Sciences, Law, Management and Finances, Mathematics, IT, Defence Studies, Humanities and Social Sciences", Brigadier noted. This year's conference would gather over 160 scholars to present their researches in an international forum.

     

    Meanwhile, two awards for the Best Paper and the Best Poster have been introduced to recognize and to promote quality research within the academia. In addition, the conference aims to provide them a platform for disseminating research findings, exchanging contemporary knowledge, and building partnerships, and collaboration to advance research and thereby to contribute to the national development drive.

     

    Further explaining on the event Deputy Vice Chancellor mentioned that, "International Research Conference (IRC) will also see the participation of a number of foreign and local dignitaries as plenary speakers". "Senior military officials from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives and China will speak in the defence plenary session" he added.

     

    In the mean time, Chief Justice of Sri Lanka, His Lordship Mohan Pieris and Attorney General Hon. Palitha Fernando will also participate as the speakers of the Law Plenary session. Plenary session of Management, Social Sciences and Humanities; Engineering, and Allied Health Sciences will also see the participation of eminent scholars of their respective disciplines.

     

    Further explaining on the influx of scholarly research papers Dr. Sirisoma mentioned that, "over 313 research papers were received and have selected 158 out of them with the approval of respective intellectuals in the field". "Such an enthusiastic involvement shows a good sign in the education and research sector", she added. She also mentioned that, "156 presentations and 26 posters will also be presented in the symposium with the participation of foreign students".

     

    During the session Dean, Faculty of Engineering Prof. Ranjith Perera informed A/L students those who sat for this year's examination and interested in pursuing higher studies, to enrol into the KDU.

     

    Prof. Perera also mentioned that, distinctive degree programmes will be commenced including Built Environment, Spaces Science, Surveying Science, Industrial Information System, Aeronautical Science, and Aircraft Maintenance at a competitive price. Opportunity is available for students those who have passed in London Advanced Level also to join the KDU, he noted.
