    Inflation declines to 3.8 percent in June Featured

    Sri Lanka's inflation, as measured by the change in the Colombo Consumers' Price Index (CCPI) deflated to 3.8 percent in June 2019 from 5.0 percent in May 2019, the Department of Census and Statistics reported. The CCPI for all items increased in June 2019 to 130.2 from 129.0 in May 2019. An increase in the index point by 0.95 percent was due to the expenditure value increase of Food items by 0.74 percent and increase of Non Food items by 0.22 percent.

    The year-on-year (YoY) inflation of Food Group has decreased from 0.8 percent in May 2019 to ‐1.0 percent in June 2019 while that of Non‐food Group has decreased from 6.8 percent in May 2019 to 6.0 percent in June 2019.
    For the month of June 2019, on year to year basis, contribution to inflation by food commodities was -0.31 percent. The contribution of Non Food items was 4.14 percent. The moving average inflation rate for the month of June 2019 remained unchanged from May at 4.2 percent.
