Respect All Religions & Learn the Good from Them - Jaffna Commander

    September 01, 2014

Senior and Junior prefects of De Mazenod College, Kandana attended a two day Self Development workshop conducted recently by Security Force Jaffna (SF-J) at the “Wisdom”, Kankesanthurai. The workshop was centered around social etiquettes, decision making, team building and a few other subjects relevant to personality and leadership building.

Commander SF-J Major General Udaya Perera, an Old Mazenodian attending the inauguration session as Chief Guest advised them to fine-tune their behavioural patterns to suit the customs and norms accepted by the society. Recollecting his cherished memories as a young student at the College, Maj. Gen. Perera explained how he was moulded to be a patriotic citizen by his Alma Mater.

“Have the practice of worshiping your parents and teachers. Be ready to accept whatever the good you find in any religion. Respect all religions casting away differences. Be mindful of your appearance and behavior and try to impress others with your personality,” Maj. Gen. Perera told the students.

Selected team included 6 female students and 39 male students. They had an opportunity to learn about Jaffna culture and religious background from two senior prefects of St Patrick’s College, Jaffna, Uthaya Kumar Mithusan and Sri Kanthan Mohanraj who joined the Mazenodians at the workshop. This meeting of young boys and girls opened an avenue for a new friendship between the two leading colleges.

Upali Silva, Prefect of Games and Mr. Royden Fernando of De Mazenod teaching staff were also present. Lectures were conducted by officers of the SF-J.(cimicj/KH)
