    Laksala to buy Kithul based products

    Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa participating as the Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony of the "Kithulaka Varuna" exhibition at the "Sudharshi" Hall on last Friday (04) instructed Laksala Chairman Anil Koswatte to purchase "Kithul" based Crafts, Furniture and Other products to Laksala as a measure to guarantee a fair price to those engaged in "Kithul" related products industry.

    The Exhibition and the inaugural  ceremony was organized by the Ministry of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development. The exhibition and Trade Fair was declared open by Minister Basil Rajapakse, accompanied by Senior Minister, A.H.M. Fowzie and Minster of Industry and Commerce, Rishad Bathiudeen at the invitation of Douglas Devananda, Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development.

    Hon. Basil Rajapakse, instructed Mr. Anil Coswatte to look into the possibility of purchasing to his institution, the "Kithul" based crafts and other products that could be promoted as Souvenirs among tourists as the he was informed that marketing of such products had proved to be a quite a challenge right throughout to the "Kithul" craftsmen, engaged in the industry.

    Richard Vokes, former Asian Development Bank Country Director to Sri Lanka, speaking at the occasion said that he would explore the possibility of putting into effect, a mechanism to import "Kithul" related products  once he is back in Britain. The other foreigners who had come to see the exhibition also expressed their desire of importing Kithul products once back in their countries.

    Sivagnanasothy, the Ministry Secretary, the two additional Secretaries and several Ministry officials also participated at the occasion.
