    Jaffna-Chennai Commercial flights commences Nov 10

    The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said that daily commercial flights between newly opened Jaffna International airport and the Chennai and Trichy airports in India would commence from November 10.CAA Director General H. M. M. C. Nimalsiri told the media that the flights would be operated by an Indian Airline. The Alliance-Air, a sister subsidy of Air India wishes to operate seven flights to Jaffna International Airport and returns per week.

    In addition, a locally owned airline has also scheduled flights three times a week from Jaffna to airports located in South India. The Palali airport, which has been upgraded as Sri Lanka’s third international airport, was declared open on October 17 by President Maithripala Sirisena with the participation of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
