    67th Independence Day Celebrations in Weeraketiya

    The 67th National Independence Day Celebrations will be held at the Weeraketiya Central College on 4th February 2015.

    This was revealed at a discussion held in this regard, presided by Prime Minister D.M.Jayaratna with the participation of Minister of Public Administration and Home Affairs W.D.J.Seneviorathna at Prime Minister's Office on Wednesday (10).

    This being the first occasion an Independence Day Celebration is to be held in the Hambantota District, the celebrations will include many programmes such as religious activities, provincial developments, march past, cultural pageants etc.

    During the initial discussion, Minister Senevirathna instructed relevant officials to allocate each work pertaining to road development, establishing alternate roads, decorating the stage and the premises, providing water and electricity to separate officers.

     

    Parallel to the celebrations in Hambantota, a pirith chanting ceremony will be held at the Independence Square in Colombo.  Also religious activities will be conducted in five religious places in the Weeraketiya Divisional Secretariat Division.  A ceremony to lay floral tributes at the  D.S.Senanayake Statue in Galle Face too will take place parallel to the Independence Day celebrations.

     

    Public Administration and Home Affairs Deputy Minister Wijaya Dahanayake, Water  Supply and Drainage Deputy Minister Nirupama Rajapaksa, Hambantota District MP V.K.Indika, Central Province MP Anuradha Jayarathna, Prime Minister's Secretary S.Amarasekera, Public Administration and Home Affairs Secretary P.B.Abeykoon were present at the discussion.(KH)
