    Peace, happiness and prosperity to the entire Sri Lankan community - PM Featured

    Sri Lankans have the opportunity to revive fresh hopes during the New Year, while holding on to the age old customs and cultural values, Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne states in his Sinhala-Tamil New Year message.

    Full text of the message: "It is with great pleasure that I add this message on account of the dawn of the Sinhala-Tamil New Year which brings


    "The New Year is important not only because the Sun transits from the house of Pisces (Meena Rashiya) to the house of Aries (Mesha Rashiya) but also since it is a very special function which builds unity among Sinhalese and Hindus as well as other races. "Sri Lankans, just after their new harvest perform all the New Year rituals at the same auspicious time exhibiting their harmony and collaboration, to the world.


    "Defying all predictions, President Mahinda Rajapaksa was able to end the war that plagued the country for 30 years. Following the victory, we are now on our way towards the development of our country at a global level.


    "Parallel to this program to achieve Millennium Development Goals, our government has launched many projects targeting economic, social and cultural development to uplift the country to a higher elevation at a global level. Further, it supports the existence of an economically and spiritually developed nation in the country.


    During the past few years, the President has provided leadership for several development activities which are similar to giant projects of our ancient kings.

    "Now as Sri Lankans, you have been gifted with the opportunity to realise your hopes for the New Year, while safeguarding age-old customs, social and cultural values.


    "Today is the day that brings smiles on to your faces for a bright future. I wish you a very happy new year filled with peace, happiness and prosperity. Wish you all a fabulous future".
