    Service of Postal Department Appreciated on World Post Day

    A number of Postal Department servants including T. Krishnaraja of Delft post office and Anton Camillus of Jaffna post office were awarded for their excellent service rendered to people and the Department during “World Post Day” celebrations held at Jaffna recently. The national ceremony to celebrate this significant day was organized at Saraswathi Hall in Jaffna with attendance of senior officials and a section of department servants island-wide.

    Commander Security Force Jaffna Major General Udaya Perera as the Chief Guest of the ceremony, addressing the gathering appreciated the long service of the Postal Department and its servants. He made a special note on how it helped boost morale of soldiers lived away from their loved ones generating effective communication in the form of letters to and fro since it was the commonly used mode of communication during the time of disturbances.


    A special stamp to mark the World Post Day 2014 was issued by the department at the ceremony.


    Uva Province was adjudged the best in productivity while D.M. Ariyaratne of Moonamaldeniya sub post office in North Western Province was awarded as the most efficient postman in the island. Peradeniya in Kandy and Dalukana in Polonnaruwa won awards as the best main post office and best sub post office respectively.


    A special award of appreciation was awarded to Pallai sub post office, Jaffna.


    Post Master General D.L.P.R. Abayaratne, Deputy Post Master General-North M. Ratnasingham, Government Agent Jaffna S. Arumainayagam and senior military of Jaffna were also present. (KH)
