The ‘Yal Devi’ Train arrived in Jaffna a short while ago, after a period of 24 years.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa boarded the train from Palai and enroute to Jaffna opened the four crossing stations situated in Kodikamam. Chavakachcheri and Navatkuli.

The Jaffna railway station has been renovated with assistance from the Bank of Ceylon (BoC). The BoC has provided many modern facilities at the railway station while also preserving its cultural architecture.

A new signalling and telecommunication system for the Northern railway network has been installed with all level crossings been interlocked with a new bell and lighting system to ensure safety.

The 339 Km line which is the longest in the country now connects the North and South symbolising a new beginning towards a united nation. (KH)
