    Deduru Oya Reservoir Project to be commissioned tomorrow

    The multi-purpose Deduru Oya Reservoir Project which is due to be commissioned  tomorrow will mark an important milestone in the life of the agricultural communities of the North Western Province. The inauguration of this massive Project will commence under the patronage of President Rajapaksa. The expenditure incurred on the Deduru Oya Reservoir Project is 10 billion rupees.

    The Scheme will enable to cultivate around 33 thousand acres of paddy land during both the Yala and Maha Seasons.


    The Irrigation Department took the initiative of launching the Deduru Oya Reservoir Scheme under the Mahinda Chinthana. The dam was being constructed at Thummodera. It is the largest Reservoir in the Northwestern Province. It can hold a capacity of 60,000 acre feet of water. He added that it will provide water to cultivate 33,000 acres of paddy land.


    The length of the Dam of the Deduru Oya Reservoir Scheme is 2400 metres. Sri Lankan engineers have handled the construction work providing the required technical know how.(KH)
