    SL Air Force Plane crashes in Hokandara, four dead Featured

    An Antonov-32 plane of the Sri Lankan Air Force has crashed in to a rubber Estate in the Hokandara area in Athurugiriya  around 6.20 AM this morning.   Four have been confirmed dead.

    Dr.Anil Jayasinghe  speaking to the official government news portal said that one individual with severel burn injuries was admitted to the Sri Jayewardenapura Hospital.  No residents in the area have been injured.


    Police Spokesman Ajith Rohana said that large crowds are arriving at the area and requested the public to refrain from coming to the area so that rescue work as well as investigations could be carried out.


    Sri Lanka Airforce Spokesperson Wing Commander Gihan Senevirathna said that there had been five crew members in the plane.  The plane was intended to  land in Ratmalana Airport.  The last message the control romo had received had been that they cannot see the air route clearly.


    The security forces and the Fire Brigades that arrived at the venue has already doused the fire.(KH)
