    Security forces remain same in numbers for development

    Army Spokesperson Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera, while addressing media personnel said that no decision has been taken to reduce the strength of the armed forces. The press briefing was held at the Media Centre of the Ministry of Defence on Friday (16th Jan). He made this observation  in response to the queries raised by journalists who were present at he briefing.

    Since the end of the terrorist conflict security forces were greatly involved in many development projects in various parts of the country. In order to assist these projects Army recruited over 20000 skilled personnel into the system, he further said.

     

    Meanwhile, elaborating on the progress of the reconstruction work of houses and shops affected by the recent communal riots in Aluthgama and Beruwela he emphasised that, the work is in progress and of the 223 houses affected 213 houses have already been handed over on completion  and work on the remaining 10 houses are in progress.

     

    He further said that, 75 commercial structures have been already handed overs after renovation and  work on remaining shops are progressing fast.(MoD)
