    Fuel Prices reduced from midnight today

    The Sri Lankan Government has announced a reduction in the fuel prices.

    The Minister of Power and Energy, Patali Champika Ranawaka said that the new prices would take effect at midnight today. He pointed out that President Maithripala Sirisena in his Manifesto under the 100-day programme, has pledged to reduce fuel prices by removing the taxes that were imposed by the Rajapaksa administration. 


    Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers  including President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe unanimously took a cabinet decision to remove all taxes imposed on fuel , effective from midnight today (21).


    The new prices will be:


    92 octane petrol per liter – Rs.117.00 (A concession of Rs.33.00)


    95 octane petrol per liter – Rs.128.00 (A concession of Rs.30.00)


    Diesel per litre – Rs.95.00 (A concession of Rs.16.00)


    Super Diesel per litre – Rs.110.00 ((A concession of Rs.23.00)


    Kerosene Oil per litre – Rs.65.00 (A concession of Rs.16.00)


    Minister Ranawaka further emphasised that based on trends in international oil prices and other international market activities, on the instructions of the President, Prime Minister and Finance Minister a new price formula for fuel,  to suit the country’s economy would be introduced in the near future.
