    Sri Lanka's first Prison School opened Featured

    Sri Lanka's first Prison School was declared open by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Watareka, Homagama on Friday. the school has been named 'Sunitha".


    The prisons schools was constructed under the Mahindodaya school concept.This prison school consists of a computer lab with forty computers and a science laboratory.

    This initiative was undertaken by the Prisons Department and the Education Ministry. Prisons Commissioner General, Chandraratne Pallegama stated that inmates who have not sat for G.C.E Ordinary Level and Advanced Level examinations will be allocated to these schools.

    The main objective of this initiative is to provide education for the prisoners aged between 20 – 30.He further said that educational facilities have been provided for the inmates in four different classrooms
