During his first meeting with the Bishop after assuming the office as the Commander SF-(J), Maj. Gen. Perera explained his intention to foster sustainable peace further strengthening healthy civil military relations in Jaffna.
They took interest in exploring ways and means to instill values in the younger generation through education and religion. SF Commander told Rev. Fr. Dr. Thiagarajah that the two day leadership and personality development programme organized by the Army recently for young Jaffna students earned great commendation of the students and teachers.
Welfare measures to be extended to Mrs. Omi singija Amalan, the widow wife of Jeyaratnam Tharshan Amalan (23) of Jaffna, and their three year old son were also discussed at length during the meeting. Amalan was killed in an unforeseen incident that took place during a sport event on March 15th at Vaddukkoddai.
