    Second National Drugs Prevention Programme in Galle Featured

    The second National Drugs Prevention Programme will be held under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena at the  Town Hall in Galle on Sept.18, Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media, Gayantha Karunathilak said today (14) at the Press Conference held at the Government Information Department.

    The programme is being organized by the Presidential Task Force for Drugs Prevention which is committed to pave way for economic, social and cultural development through making Sri Lanka a drug free nation in accordance with the manifesto of President Maithripala Sirisena; ‘Compassionate Government, a Stable Country’.
     More than 1000  representatives including Ministers, Parliamentarians, principles from 426 schools and 150 students from 10 schools in the Galle District will participate in the programme.  The students will make a pledge  on drug prevention during the programme, Gall District Additional Secretary Ms. Malani Lokupothagama said.
    According to the Minister parallel to the National Program, number of drug prevention awareness programmes will be carried out  in the Galle District among school children, Dhamma School children through religious places, , three wheeler drivers, Hotels,  Voluntary organizations and social service personnel. 
    It was also revealed that awards will be presented to 20 media personnel who have contributed towards eradication of drugs. 
    The Minister also said that all shop owners in Galle town will be informed through social development officers to refrain from selling cigarettes on Sept.18 in view of the programme. 
    The national programme has been initiated as part of efforts to eradicate the drug menace that has been identified as one of the biggest reasons that has caused the deterioration of the morals of society.
