Global real estate consultancy Jones Lang La Salle (JLL) launched the 10th edition of the Global Real Estate Transparency Index this month. Sri Lanka ranked 66 out of 100 economies this year, improving from its 2016 debut ranking of 69.
Sri Lanka's Export Development Board (EDB) says the National Export Strategy (NES), developed by private and public stakeholders through extensive consultations, will be launched on July 19. The objective of the National Export Strategy is to increase export earnings up to US$ 28 billion by 2022.
The Government has decided to write off more than Rs. 1 billion worth of micro-credit loans given by state and private financial institutions in the Northern, Eastern and North Central Provinces. State Finance Minister Eran Wickramaratne told thatthe Government intervention was to ease the hardships caused to families which had been severely affected by this debt crisis.

Sri Lanka’s external sector strengthened in April 2018 with continuous inflows to the financial account of the balance of payments (BOP) despite the mixed performance demonstrated in the current account. Sri Lanka Navy lent assistance to a ship in distress on Tuesday. According to Navy media, merchant vessel "Mutha Pioneer" had lost control and had listed to its Port Side at sea 11.6 nautical miles off Colombo harbor. Upon being alerted of the incident, Navy had sent two Fast Attack Craft (FAC) attached to the Western Naval Command for the rescue mission during the early hours, yesterday.
