    President engages in series of programmes in Mahara & Kadawata

    President Maithripala Sirisena says that the economic recession prevailed at present is not only limited to our country, but many countries in the world are facing this challenge. ‘Certain individuals issue statements saying that we can do what the government cannot do’, the President said that adding they request them to work in a responsible manner towards the country and nation.


    He made these remarks participating in a ceremony to vest the new administrative building of Mahara, in the people, yesterday (13).President Sirisena further said that even though smaller countries like Sri Lanka are vulnerable to the results of the conflicts between world powerful nations, at present through a proper economic management steps are being taken to overcome those challenges.
    The President said that when the politicians and public servants fulfill their respective duties free of fraud, corruption and malpractices, achieving the economic goals of the country will not be difficulty. Furthermore, we have to reinstate the exemplary characteristics of our proud history in our society, which gave the prominence to the indigenous products while becoming self-sufficient nation, eliminating the habit of importing everything from foreign countries including the kite.
    This new administrative building built with the aim of uplifting the living standard of the residents and trade community in the Mahara area, at a cost of Rs.445 million.President Sirisena also opened the newly built three-storied building at the Mahara District Secretariat, and this building was constructed at a cost of Rs.50 million according to the government policy of streamlining and make efficient of the public service.
    Meanwhile, the President vested the newly constructed swimming pool at the Kirillawala Central College, with the students. This project was implemented by the Urban Development Authority under the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development. The invested amount is Rs.17 million.
    When the President arrived at the school the students of the school warmly welcomed the President. President Sirisena also engaged in a cordial discussion with the students.Meanwhile, the newly built technology laboratory at the S.K.K. Suriyaarachchi Secondary School in Kadawata was also opened by the President.Also, the Awards Ceremony of the MahamayaBalikaVidyalaya was held under the patronage of the President.
    Minister PataliChampikaRanawaka, Deputy Minister LasanthaAlagiyawanna, HarshanaRajakaruna, the Chief Minister of Western Province IsuraDevapriya, PiyasiriWijenayake, RanjithSomawansha, PrishanthaJayakodi and many others participated on this occasion.
