    Pakistan, Germany agree to further enhance bilateral cooperation

    The understanding came at a meeting between Prime Minister and German Chancellor in Berlin.

    Pakistan and Germany have agreed to further enhance bilateral cooperation in diverse fields, particularly in energy, trade, and investment.

     

    The understanding came at a meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on Tuesday.

     

    Addressing joint press conference after the meeting Nawaz Sharif said Germany has assured to help Pakistan in energy sector.

     

    The Prime Minister said regional and global issues were discussed in the meeting, besides matters related to bilateral relationship.

     

    He thanked Germany for establishing energy forum in Pakistan and also welcomed Germany's decision to expand its programme of technical training in Pakistan. He said Germany is playing a significant role in development of social sector in Pakistan.

     

    Nawaz Sharif said Pakistan has rendered great sacrifices in war against terrorism, and the two countries would make joint efforts to eliminate this menace.

     

    To a question, the Prime Minister said Pakistan being a democratic and progressive country is committed to protect human rights of people.

     

    Nawaz Sharif said there is great potential of investment in energy and other sectors in Pakistan and the German investors can benefit from it.

     

    He said Germany is the fourth largest trading partner of Pakistan in the world, and the largest in Europe. He said Germany carries special status in Pakistan's foreign policy, and the two countries have pleasant and deep relationship.

     

    Speaking on the occasion, German Chancellor Angela Merkel described her talks with Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif very fruitful.

     

    She said Germany is very keen to enhance bilateral relationship with Pakistan.

     

    She congratulated Pakistan for Nobel Peace Prize given to Malala Yousufzai and termed the courageous girl as identity of Pakistan.
