Britain's Queen Elizabeth II in a message to Sri Lankan President has sent wishes of "happiness and prosperity" to Sri Lanka to mark the country's Independence Day, today.
"It gives me great pleasure to send Your Excellency my warmest greetings on the celebration of your National Day, together with my best wishes for the happiness and prosperity of the people of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in the coming year- Elizabeth II."
The former colony of the United Kingdom, Sri Lanka gained independence from the monarchy in 1948.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
