The German Asia-Pacific Business Association in Bremen celebrated its 113th Anniversary recently with the Ambassador of Sri Lanka Sarath Kongahage as Guest of Honor and Keynote Speake and presided by Arend Vollers, the President of the Association. The German Asia-Pacific Business Association is a strong network of German business companies in the fields of trade, industry, banking and small and medium size enterprises with activities in the Asia Pacific region. The Association works on the promotion of bilateral economic relationships between Germany and the Asia-Pacific Region.
The Government of Japan extended the 44th Yen Loan amounting to Japanese Yen 35,020 million (approximately Rs. 45 billion) to Sri Lanka towards the Second New Kelani Bridge Construction Project. The project would provide for a new 6-lane elevated bridge parallel to the existing New Kelani Bridge in order to accommodate the heavy inflow of traffic along and around the New Kelani Bridge.

It is significant that India which supported the U.S. proposals against Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council on the two previous occasions remained absent from voting in the election held on Thursday (March 26). India said that the US proposal was not inconsistent with the UNHRC principles.
Following a successful side event at the Palais des Nations, where “The Last Phase”, a documentary was screened based on the lives of two former LTTE combatants and told from the point of view of Jeyawadani, a former female combatant, who grew up with the doctrine of the said terrorists group in ‘Sencholai’ and spent her youth in the medical wing of the same group, participating in many of battles launched by this group.
The United States and the Western countries suffered a humiliating set back at the United Nations Human Rights Council yesterday when the vote was taken up on the US proposal against Sri Lanka yesterday.
