A programme to raise awareness among importers and the business community on the “Digital Signature and Paperless Customs Declaration System”, organised by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, was held yesterday (18) morning at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce auditorium.

The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development has launched a rapid paddy procurement programme for the 2026 Yala season, aimed at ensuring a fair price for farmers’ harvest while providing rice to consumers at affordable prices.

Ven. Rambukana Siddhartha Thera, a renowned lyricist and author who made an invaluable contribution to Sri Lankan song literature and Buddhist culture, passed away on Tuesday (18).

He was 76 years old at the time of his passing and had reportedly been receiving treatment in hospital due to an illness.

Born on May 22, 1950, in Rambukana, Deniyaya, Ven. Siddhartha Thera entered the Buddhist monkhood in 1963. He also pursued higher studies in Buddhist philosophy, obtaining a Special Degree from the University of Kelaniya.

Among his most popular lyrical works are “La Dalu Bopath,” “Me Ira Handa Yata,” “Budu Hamuduruwo Apith Dakinnathi,” “Veherak Wage,” and “Pansale Palliye,” along with many other memorable songs that enriched Sri Lankan music and culture.
