Sri Lanka hopes for the swift establishment of peace in the Middle East – President
The Registrar General’s Department, one of Sri Lanka’s oldest state institutions, marked its 161st anniversary with the launch of a new call center and a modernized official website yesterday (7).
The renovation work of the Colombo Fort Railway Station, implemented by the Sri Lanka Railways under the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, is scheduled to begin tomorrow (April 9) at 9:00 a.m. under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.

The Department for Registration of Persons has announced that its general services will be suspended until further notice due to a sudden breakdown in its computer system.
According to a statement, only one-day services for essential applicants will be provided for issuing National Identity Cards (NICs) at the head office and all provincial offices tomorrow (08). Normal services and front office operations will remain suspended until further notice.
In addition, all other services, including verification of NIC details for government and non-government institutions and translation services into English, will also be unavailable. Relevant institutions have been advised to use alternative arrangements.
The department stated that all services will resume once the system is restored and expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to the public and other institutions.
The Ministerial Consultative Committee on Defence met in Parliament this afternoon (07) under the chairmanship of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his capacity as Minister of Defence.
A financial donation of Rs. 2.5 million has been made by Vidullanka PLC to the Government’s ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ Fund, established to provide relief to those affected by Cyclone Ditwah.
