Sri Lanka is currently facing a foreign currency issue and needs to go for an export-driven economy, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said today.Mr. Wickremesinghe expressed this sentiment during the opening of greater Kurunegala water supply and sewerage project last (13th) evening.
Thirty five members of the Security Forces who were selected to the final round of the Ranaviru Real Star-5th Mission received the ownership of new houses from President Maithiripala Sirisena at a ceremony held at Prabuddhagama in Madurawala, Horana.
Over 400 estate workers from the Dunsinane Estate in Pundaluoya in Nuwara Eliya were vested with land ownership for houses that was constructed under the Indian Housing Project in the plantation area. In a special message by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he congratulated the new owners and hailed their efforts for actively participating in building those houses.

This centre was built according to a concept of the Chief Incumbent of the Payagala Malegoda Sri Pushparama Vihara and the Bentota Walallawita Region Chief Sanganayaka Ven. Malegoda Nanda Thero.
The new faculty building of the Applied Sciences Faculty of the Eastern University was vested with the students and the construction of the new auditorium of the University was commenced under the patronage of the President Maithripala Sirisena .The President who visited the University was warmly welcomed by the students.The President who unveiled the commemoration plaque joined the event of starting of the construction works of the new auditorium.The amount spent on the faculty building composed with all the facilities was Rs.410 million. The amount estimated to be spent on the new auditorium is Rs.784 million.
The Thurunu Diriya loan scheme, designed to empower young entrepreneurs, was launched by the Bank of Ceylon with the assistance of the Policy Development Office of the Prime Minister’s Office. Loans were granted to three young entrepreneurs of the North Western Province under the loan scheme.
