SLINEX 2018, joint exercise between the navies of India and Sri Lanka concluded on a successful note in Trincomalee Thursday (13th September). The seven day exercise which comprised two phases, namely the Harbour and Sea Phase was participated by around 1,000 naval personnel from both countries. Meanwhile, the naval drill was joined by SLNS Sayurala, SLNS Samudura, SLNS Suranimila of the Sri Lanka Navy and INS Sumitra, INS Kirch, INS Cora Divh together with 02 Dornier air craft and a helicopter of the Indian Navy.

Sri Lanka emerged the Asian region champions in the M1 Asian Netball Championships 2018 after triumphing over host Singapore 69-50 in the final played at OCBC arena, Singapore yesterday.This is the fifth occasion Sri Lanka has won the Asian championship the last occasion being 2009. Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority’s (SLTDA) action plan for Kuchchaveli won the first place for the best sustainable tourism action plan at the High-Level Policy Forum on Tourism Development 2018, organized by the Korean government and Korean Tourism Organization (KTO), in Seoul, last month.At the forum, participants from 10 countries were asked to present their action plans on capacity building for inclusive growth in tourism in their respective countries, as part of a knowledge sharing seminar on Sustainable Tourism Development.
The Indonesian Naval Ship ‘Kri Sultan Hasanuddin’ arrived at the port of Colombo on a goodwill visit yesterday (08th September). The ship was welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in accordance with naval customs, upon her arrival. A group of officials from the Embassy of Indonesia in Colombo was also present on the occasion.

The total number of international tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka during August 2018 was 200,359. In comparison to August last year, there is a growth of 4.9% when the arrivals were 190,928.This month, the largest source market for tourists is India, followed by China and United Kingdom.Almost 99% of tourists travelled by air to Sri Lanka.
