Sri Lanka’s Youth Affairs Minister holds Bilateral Discussions with Foreign Youth Ministers and UN Representatives

Sri Lanka’s Minister of Youth Affairs and Skills Development Mr. Dullas Alahapperuma held bilateral discussions yesterday (May 8) with six youth ministers/deputy ministers and two representatives from U.N. agencies who are present in Sri Lanka for the World Conference on Youth (WCY) 2014. The Minister held the discussions with the following ministers and deputy ministers:


1. Mr. V

iliame Naupoto – Minister for Youth and Sports, Fiji


2. Kibuule Ronald – Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Uganda
3. Ms. Maya Todorova – Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Bulgaria
4. Mr. Taimoor Shah Eshaqzay – Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Afghanistan
5. Mr. Christopher Mulenga – Deputy Minister of Youth & Sport, Zambia
6. Ms. Susely Morfa Gonzalez – Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Cuba

In addition to these meetings, Minister Alahapperuma also conducted bilateral meetings with the following U.N. representatives:

1. Ms. Nobuko Horibe – Regional Director, Asia Pacific Regional Office of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) 


2. Mr. Ramanathan Balakrishnan – Deputy Regional Director of the Asia and Pacific Region, The U.N. Women Regional Program on Empowering Women Migrant Workers in Asia (EWMWA)

Ministers, deputy ministers and the U.N. representatives have expressed confidence that the outcome of WCY 2014 will add value to youth development on a global scale. Ministers also commended on Sri Lanka’s outstanding progress in youth development and sports, which they believe to be highly interlinked. Further, foreign youth ministers appreciated the vocational training system that is being implemented by Sri Lanka and also expressed interest in resource sharing with Sri Lanka in order to make better use of the country’s vocational training resources. These delegations also thanked Sri Lanka for the outstanding hospitality provided for them during their stay here.

 

Mr. B. Wijayaratne, the Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skills Development and Mr. Lalith Piyum Perera, Chairman of National Youth Services Council, also participated in these bilateral discussions
