Under the direction of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Government has established center to gather information about the abductions that occur in Colombo and the in the suburb.
This was revealed to Media by the Minister of Media- Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena at a press conference held in Colombo today. The center will officially commence its work from tomorrow (28) at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH). Public is request to submit any information regarding abductions to the officers at the center from tomorrow. The President has appointed a committee comprising of Minister Dullas Alahaperuma, Minister Rajitha Senaratne, Deputy Minister P. Radhakrishnan, Deputy Minister K. Baiz and the opposition leader of the Colombo Municipal Council- Vasudeva Nanayakkara as the team to supervise the progress of the center. The committee is scheduled to hold a special discussion with the Inspector General of Police on Saturday the 30th. “The Government concern over the issue of abductions has positively contributed in recognizing the core of such abductor groups” Minister added. In last week the Government initiated two special operation cells to collect information and take immediate action on complaints of abductions and extortions in Colombo and suburbs. These two units will function 24 hours of the day and are operated from Presidential Secretariat and from the Police. |
