    CPA Asia Regional seminar on Human Rights commences tomorrow Featured

    The Commonwealth Secretariat, Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (Sri Lanka branch) will jointly organize a seminar on " the Role of the Parliamentarians in the promotion and the protection of the Human Rights (HR) from February 1st - 3rd for the CPA Asia, India and South East Asia regions.

     

    Delegates from Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are due to attend this seminar representing CPA India, Asia and South East Asia regions. Delegation of Sri Lanka will comprise of Minister for Skill Development and Vocational Training Mahinda Samarasinghe, Minister of Foreign Employment Thalatha Athukorala, MP Nalin Bandara Jayamaha, MP Vijitha Herath, MP Imran Maharoof and MP Shanthi Sriskandarasa.

     

    The opening ceremony will be held on 1st February 2016 at Hotel Cinnamon Lake Side in Colombo under the participation of the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, the Minister of National Policies and Economic affairs Ranil Wickremasinghe as the chief guest and the Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka Karu Jayasuriya will grace this occasion delivering the welcome speech.

     

    The 1st session of the seminar will commence following the opening ceremony and will continue for 3 days from 1st -3rd February 2016. This will be conducted under the theme "The Role of the Parliamentarians in the promotion and the protection of the Human Rights" unerd 13 topics.

     

    Minister of Justice and Buddha Sasana Dr. Wijayadasa Rajapakshe will be a panelist on the topic "Parliamentarians and their Role in the promotion and the protection of the Human Rights while the Minister for Skill Development and Vocational Training Mahinda Samarasinghe will also chair a session on the topic "Parliamentarians and the Universal periodic Review Process".
