The 2026 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination begins today (10) and will continue until September 05 at 2,532 examination centres across the island, Commissioner General of Examinations Indika Kumari said.
Speaking at a media briefing held at the Department of Examinations on August 08, she said a total of 372,310 candidates are scheduled to sit for this year’s examination, including 264,496 school candidates and 107,814 private candidates.
All candidates have been advised to arrive at their respective examination centres one hour before the scheduled starting time.
The Commissioner General stressed that mobile phones, smartwatches, notes, Bluetooth devices and all other electronic devices are strictly prohibited inside examination halls.
Candidates have also been urged to strictly follow examination rules and refrain from any form of examination malpractice. She noted that in previous years, the results of a number of students had to be withheld due to examination-related misconduct.
Meanwhile, the Department of Examinations is prepared to provide necessary facilities in the event of any emergency or disaster situation during the examination period.
