Sri Lanka's first-ever National Research Conference on Youth Development will be held in Colombo on September 16 and 17 under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.
Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara stated that all arrangements have been made for the two-day conference, which is being jointly organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Open University of Sri Lanka.
The conference aims to identify the potential of Sri Lanka's youth and encourage their contribution to the country's sustainable development while generating scientific data required for youth development initiatives.
Approximately Rs. 5 million is expected to be spent on the conference, while the keynote address will be delivered by Vice-Chancellor of the Open University of Sri Lanka, Professor P. A. C. Thilakaratne.
A Deputy Minister participating in the event stated that nearly 200 research papers have already been submitted for the conference. The findings and scientific data generated through the conference are also expected to support the formulation of the National Youth Policy, which is scheduled to be introduced next year.
The conference will focus on promoting evidence-based policymaking on youth development, creating a platform for knowledge sharing among young researchers, policymakers and professionals, and exploring innovative solutions to challenges faced by young people.
