The Road Development Authority (RDA) has introduced a simplified online registration system for the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) service on the Colombo–Katunayake Expressway, while also launching a public awareness programme today to encourage greater use of the facility.
Motorists using ETC can enjoy dedicated entry and exit lanes, allowing faster and more convenient travel without delays at toll plazas. Users also receive a 10% discount on toll charges for every journey.
The ETC payment system is currently available at the Peliyagoda, Kerawalapitiya, Ja-Ela and Katunayake interchanges, with plans underway to extend the service to the Kadawatha Interchange for vehicles entering the expressway via the Outer Circular Highway.
To make registration easier, the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development and the RDA have enabled online registration through the official website. After registering, vehicle owners can collect an RFID tag from a selected interchange and top up their ETC accounts online or through GovPay using bank cards.
The RDA advised ETC users to maintain a speed of 15 km/h and keep a distance of at least 20 metres from the vehicle ahead when passing through ETC lanes to ensure smooth and uninterrupted operation of the system. A public awareness programme on the service was also held today.
