The National Dengue Control Week commenced today (June 15) as health authorities intensify efforts to combat the growing dengue threat across Sri Lanka.
The programme, organized jointly by the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, the National Dengue Control Unit, the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, and the Sri Lanka Police, will continue until June 20.
During the first three days, from June 15 to 17, cleaning campaigns will be carried out in urban areas and public spaces, including blocked drainage systems, commercial complexes, religious sites, and bus terminals.
On June 18, cleaning activities will focus on schools, preschools, and private tuition institutions, while June 19 has been designated for cleaning government and private institutions as well as factory premises.
The final day, June 20, will be dedicated to cleaning homes and surrounding areas to eliminate mosquito breeding sites. Health authorities have urged the public to actively participate in the campaign to help prevent the spread of dengue.
