The Ministry of Health and Mass Media has launched a major initiative to modernize and expand diagnostic services across Sri Lanka by providing 11 state-of-the-art CT scanners to hospitals at a cost of Rs. 1.95 billion.
Under the programme, new CT scanners have already been installed at the Kalutara Teaching Hospital and Kurunegala Teaching Hospital, while four advanced scanners have been supplied to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, Kandy National Hospital, Galle National Hospital, and Colombo South Teaching Hospital with assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Plans are also underway to procure additional CT scanners for Kuliyapitiya Teaching Hospital and the District General Hospitals in Dambulla, Nawalapitiya, Chilaw, and Mannar.
The new 64-slice and 128-slice CT scanners will significantly enhance the diagnosis of stroke, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, trauma cases, and other medical conditions, improving healthcare services and access to advanced diagnostic facilities across the country.
