SAARC Secretary General Pays Farewell Call on Deputy Minister Arun Hemachandra

H.E. Ambassador Md. Golam Sarwar, Secretary General of SAARC, paid a farewell call on Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment, Arun Hemachandra, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism.

The Deputy Minister recalled his previous meeting with the Secretary General last year and expressed his pleasure at meeting him again recently at the China–South Asia Cooperation Forum.

During the meeting, discussions focused on the forthcoming 10th Meeting of the SAARC Chief Veterinary Officers’ Forum, underscoring the importance of continued regional cooperation in areas directly affecting public welfare, agriculture, livestock development, animal health, and food security. The exchange reaffirmed the shared commitment of SAARC member states to strengthening collaboration in sectors that contribute to the well-being and resilience of communities across the region.

Deputy Minister Arun Hemachandra commended Ambassador Md. Golam Sarwar for his efforts in promoting regional cooperation and fostering stronger engagement among SAARC member states during his tenure as Secretary General. He conveyed Sri Lanka’s appreciation for his contribution towards advancing the objectives of SAARC and extended his best wishes for his future endeavours.

Sri Lanka remains committed to working closely with SAARC and its member states to advance a more connected, peaceful, and prosperous South Asian region.
