Sri Lanka and Montana Explore New Opportunities to Expand Economic Cooperation

Sri Lanka and the State of Montana in the United States have explored opportunities to strengthen economic cooperation and expand investment in agriculture, manufacturing, mineral resources and technology during bilateral discussions held between Montana Governor Greg Gianforte and Deputy Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Chathuranga Abeysinghe.

The meeting was held on 09 October at the Bilateral Meeting Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, with the aim of strengthening economic ties, expanding investment opportunities and fostering mutually beneficial business partnerships between Sri Lanka and Montana.

The discussions highlighted the importance of maintaining stable and favourable economic policies to attract investment to Sri Lanka. The two sides also explored ways to encourage foreign investment and establish direct links between the business communities of Sri Lanka and Montana.

Key areas of discussion included expanding market opportunities for agricultural products, developing facilities for the collection and storage of agricultural produce, and facilitating the exchange of modern technologies.

The meeting also explored opportunities to strengthen cooperation between manufacturing industries and industrial enterprises in Sri Lanka and Montana, while examining the potential for collaboration in mineral-based industries and information technology.

The possibility of organising a visit to Montana by a Sri Lankan business delegation was also discussed. Such a visit would enable Sri Lankan entrepreneurs and business representatives to gain a better understanding of the investment and commercial opportunities available in the state.

The meeting was attended by United States Ambassador to Sri Lanka Eric S. Meyer and members of the American delegation, including Montana Department of Commerce Director Marta Bertoglio, Montana Department of Agriculture Director Jillian Streit, and Deena Mansour, representing the University of Montana.

The discussions provided an opportunity to identify potential areas for expanding economic relations between Sri Lanka and Montana, with a focus on trade, investment, technology exchange and future business cooperation.
