Sri Lanka Customs' Narcotics Control Unit has seized a consignment of Kush cannabis and hashish weighing 5.137 kilograms, with an estimated street value of more than Rs. 51.37 million, at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), according to the Customs Media Unit.
The drugs were recovered during a special inspection conducted at the airport's arrival terminal yesterday (07) from the luggage of two Thai nationals who had arrived in Sri Lanka on Thai Airways flight TG 307.
A total of 2,224 grams of Kush cannabis, valued at approximately Rs. 22.24 million, was found in the possession of the 39-year-old suspect. The drugs had been concealed in eight plastic bottles.
Meanwhile, 2,272 grams of Kush cannabis and 641 grams of hashish, with a combined estimated street value of approximately Rs. 29.13 million, were recovered from the 23-year-old suspect.
The total quantity of drugs seized included 4,496 grams of Kush cannabis and 641 grams of hashish.
Following preliminary investigations, the two suspects and the seized narcotics were handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations and legal proceedings.
