The Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation has sought an explanation from Turkish Airlines regarding the damage caused to the sports equipment of world champion Rumesh Tharanga upon his arrival in Sri Lanka after winning the gold medal in the javelin throw at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship.
A discussion on the matter was held yesterday (15) at the premises of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka, chaired by Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Janith Ruwan Kodituwakku.
Secretary to the Ministry W.W.S. Mangala, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority Captain Daminda Rambukwella, Chairman retired Colonel Ranjith Rajasinghe, officials and representatives of Turkish Airlines participated in the discussion.
Representatives of Turkish Airlines expressed their regret over the damage caused to Tharanga’s sports equipment.
It was decided to conduct the necessary internal investigations, properly assess the damage and take prompt action to provide compensation for the losses incurred.
