The renovated Biomedical Engineering Services (BES) Centre of the Ministry of Health and Mass Media was officially handed over to the Ministry yesterday (16), alongside the distribution of engineering tools and medical equipment to provincial Biomedical Engineering Service Units.
The event was held under the patronage of Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, with the participation of Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Sri Lanka Miyon Lee and Secretary General of the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH) Baek Kwan-baek.
KOFIH invested over Rs. 501 million for the refurbishment of the BES Centre, including a modern auditorium, and a further Rs. 228 million for engineering tools, medical testing equipment, and repair tools distributed to provincial units.
Addressing the event, Minister Jayatissa expressed appreciation for the Republic of Korea’s longstanding support to Sri Lanka’s health sector, highlighting the vital role played by Biomedical Engineering Services in maintaining and repairing critical medical equipment used in hospitals across the country.
The BES capacity-building project, funded by KOFIH with a grant of USD 7.2 million, aims to strengthen biomedical engineering services through infrastructure improvements, equipment support, inventory management systems, mobile workshops, and staff training programmes.
