The Department of Meteorology says several spells of showers are expected today in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North Western provinces, as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
A few places in the Ampara and Monaragala districts may experience showers or thundershowers after 2.00 p.m., while mainly dry weather is expected to prevail over the rest of the island.
Fairly strong winds of 40–50 km/h may occur at times in the Northern, North Central and North Western provinces, and in the Matale, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.
The Department of Meteorology has advised the public to take necessary precautions to minimize the risk of damage caused by temporary strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
