Sri Lankan javelin thrower Rumesh Tharanga, who set a new meet record with a throw of 89.28 meters at the Kip Keino Classic in Kenya, met Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage yesterday (27) morning along with his coach.
During the meeting, Tharanga and his coach expressed their sincere appreciation to the Minister for the financial and technical support provided to athletes through the “Mission Olympic” program implemented by the Ministry of Sports. Tharanga emphasized that the assistance received through this initiative has been a significant strength in helping athletes like him achieve success at the international level.
Minister Gamage commended Tharanga’s outstanding international performance and also discussed his future competition plans. Highlighting Tharanga’s potential to secure an Olympic medal for Sri Lanka, the Minister assured that all necessary support—including financial provisions, overseas training, and other facilities will be provided without any shortcomings.
“Rumesh Tharanga is an athlete who brings Olympic hopes to the country. It is the responsibility of the Ministry to provide maximum support to him and his coach,” the Minister stated.
